CANCELLATION OF OPEN SHOOTS

it is with great regret that we must announce the cancelation of our first two shoots of the year - 5th April 2020 and 17th May 2020 because of the coronavirus situation. Currently we are hoping that our August shoot (on 16th August 2020) will go ahead but this will need to be confirmed later.

Those who have booked in and paid will be contacted by our shoot administrator in the next week or so regarding the options for refunds.

Fleet Ibex AGM 2020

Please note that we will be holding our 2020 AGM at the club on Sunday 16th February 2020 starting at 10:00hrs.

As usual, we will be receiving reports from the committee members and discussing any further business as appropriate.

We have not been informed of any resignations from the committee so it is assumed that all will be available for re-election for another year.

If any members would like to volunteer for any of the positions on the committee they need to be nominated and seconded in accordance with our constitution which can be downloaded from our web site.

All nominations need to be proposed and seconded in writing at least 14 days prior to the meeting (i.e. by 2nd February 2020) and at least one of the proposer and seconder must attend the meeting

Tea and coffee making facilities will be available free of charge on 16/2/20

We hope to see as many of the members as possible on the 16th.

I will be sending out membership renewal forms by Email after the subscriptions have been confirmed at the AGM.

Annual Charity Shoot - 19th Januay 2020

A fantastic day - the weather was absolutely brilliant (but a bit “brass monkeys”) and we had a record turnout and a record amount raised for charity.

20 no. 3D targets were set out on either side of the main track (in the usual “friendly shoot” arrangement) and archers were invited to shoot as many or as few as they liked - starting wherever they chose.

No doubt helped by the great weather, we had over 100 archers turn up - including about 80 non-member guests. The format and the fact that few were actually scoring resulted in a very sociable day - a good opportunity to meet others.

The chosen charity this year was the RNLI and I’m delighted to report that we raised £525 - all of which will go to the RNLI.

Many thanks to Terry and Graham for their hard work setting out the course and also, many thanks to all of you who supported the event and were so generous with your donations.

A set of photographs taken on the day have been uploaded to the “Photo Galleries” page of this web site.

13th October 2019 - Club Championships

The weather forecast was appalling for the day of our annual club championships but, although wet at times, it could have been worse and we managed to get through the day without too much disruption.

Many thanks to the members who made the effort to attend - 43 of you shooting (about the same as last year)

Everyone seemed to have a good day shooting around 20 targets set out, as usual for this event, as walk back targets either side of the main track. By completing 2 circuits (each time from a different peg) we managed to fit in 40 targets in a small area of ground. Many thanks to Terry and Graham for their excellent course setting.

Perhaps as a club we need to agree whether it’s worth continuing the championship shoot. In my view, an attendance of 43 out of a membership of about 230 is not good. To be charitable, the poor weather may have been a significant factor.

The full results can be seen on the “Shoot Results and Reports” page of this web site.

Well done to all medalists.

In particular, congratulations to Daniel Hawley who took the overall champion award. His score shooting Gents Longbow was outstanding.

It was particularly encouraging for me as the handicaps calculated from the open shoots this year seem to result in a very close competition with the top 3 being from 3 different classes with only 13 points between 1st and 3rd.

The photo shows Daniel receiving his trophy.

Club Championships and Charity Shoot

We have now set the dates for our next shoots:

Sunday 20th October for the Club Championships

As in previous years, we will be setting out 20 No. 3D targets to shoot around twice. Medals in all NFAS bow classes will be up for grabs together with an overall club champion decided on a handicap basis. It is a competition open only to full Fleet Ibex members (i.e. there is no need to be a NFAS members to compete but, we’re afraid, no guests) and is an ideal way to introduce yourself to the procedures for competitions and scoring. If you’ve never shot in a competition before, why not give it a go. It is a fun way to spend a day with plenty of time to socialise with your fellow members. There will be no catering except for coffee and tea making facilities. Registration will be from 08:30hrs with shooting starting at 10:00hrs prompt.

If you want to shoot in a group please contact the Membership Secretary, Paul Harding, with the names of those in your group. It is not essential to pre-book but it would help us if we have an idea of numbers in advance.

There is no entrance fee so, as a member, you can shoot without charge.

Sunday 19th January 2020 for our Charity Shoot.

We hold this event as a bit of light relief in the depths of winter!. A course of 20 No. 3D targets will be set out as for the Club Championships. There will be no competition although score cards will be available for anyone wishing to score. All members are eligible to shoot free of charge but all guests are requested to make a donation to charity. The charity benefitting will be announced on the day.

There is no need to book - just turn up on the day. There is also no fixed timetable - just start and finish when and wherever you like.

Notice to Guests - all guests are welcome. You do not need to be NFAS members or even members of affiliated clubs. When you arrive you will need to sign the guest book. All those shooting should be familiar with the usual safety rules and etiquette. Anyone acting in any way that is not considered to be safe and within the usual expectations of behaviour will be asked to leave.
