We intend to hold the club championships on Sunday 30th October 2016.
Please note that to enter you do not need to be an NFAS member but you do need to be a full member of Fleet Ibex.
Put the date in your diaries. Watch this space for more details - including the start time as the clocks go back on 30th and we may run out of daylight if we don't start promptly!
Will members please note that the committee has agreed for 3DAuk to hold a shoot on some of our grounds on 7th, 8th and 9th October 2016.
As a result, the area to the left of the access road (where our Black Course is located) will be in use for this shoot over those days. Please note therefore that the Black Course will be closed to members on 7th, 8th and 9th October. However, the Blue Course will remain available for members to use.
We have also agree to provide club members to act as marshals - 4 being required for each of the 3 days. If any member is prepared to help in this respect, please contact Terry either directly or through the contacts page of this web site.
The full results for the Ken Dendle Open Shoot held on 14th August 2016 have been published and can be found on the "Shoot Results and Reports" page.
The Ken Dendle trophy which is decided on a handicap basis was won by Patrick Bishop from the Company of 60 club who was shooting Primitive. Well done Patrick.
Our final open shoot of the year - the Ken Dendle Memorial Shoot - was held on 14th August 2016. A selection of photos have been included in the "Galleries" page. Many thanks to the members who answered the plea for photographs - most of which have been included.
Many thanks to all involved - the course setters, the organisers Helen and Terry and the excellent caterers - for an excellent day sport.

There were several success stories coming out of recent open shoots for Fleet Ibex members.
Several members competed in the excellent 2 day Southern Championships organised by the Apollo and Raven clubs. Only those completing the full 2 days (11 Ibex members) were listed in the results but these included (in medal positions):
Gents AFB - Denis Alston 2nd
Gents Bowhunter - John Jackson 3rd
Junior Girl Bowhunter - Lara Evans 1st
Ladies Compound Limited - Caroline Jameson 1st
Gents Compound Unlimited - Edward Britton 3rd
Ladies Primitive - Carolyn Neville 3rd
A smaller shoot but none the less equally enjoyable was the open shoot at Magna Carta on 24th July. Several Ibex members achieved medal performances:
Gents AFB - Glenn Martin 1st, Grant Hazelton 2nd
Ladies Barebow - Sharon Charman 1st, Vanessa Manchester 2nd
Gents Barebow - Rod Harris 2nd, Derek Manchester 3rd.
So, an excellent day for Sagittarius bows - all 6 medals in the bag!! Of particular note was the performance by Sharon whose score would have won her gold in the gents barebow.
So, next date for the diary is 14th August where we are holding our own open shoot of the year. Many thanks to all clubs involved (Apollo, Raven and Magna) for all their effort.
On 12/6/16 a small team (Denis Alston, Grant Hazelton, Richard Cadwallader and Paul Harding) representing Fleet Ibex competed in a highly enjoyable traditional Nepalese archery competition at Cody Sports and Social Club in Farnborough.
It took most of the morning to understand the rules but in essence, the actual shooting and scoring was very straight-forward. The target is about 6ft high and about 15 inches wide and each archer shot two arrows from a standard distance (38 yards). Every hit scored one point with a bonus point if you hit the bulls eye about the size of a 50p coin. From 38 yards this is not easy although throughthe course of the day we did get about 5 bulls eyes - all by Nepalese archers of course! The competition was for 8 teams of 4 archers with each shooting 2 x 2 x 4 = 16 arrows so, ignoring the bulls eyes, the maximum score is 16 for individuals and 64 for the team. The complications arose when money started changing hands. Everyone had to put in 50p every time someone hit the bulls eye although who got this is anyone's guess - as none of us hit the bull we didn't see our money again!!
There were 4 Nepalese teams and 4 British teams. The 4 Nepalese teams, naturally, came 1st, 2nd, 3rd and 4th followed by Fleet Ibex, Cody Archers, SPTA and Longbow Heritage at 5th, 6th, 7th and 8threspectively. There were individual prizes for some of the non-Nepalese competitors. Denis on best score (14/16) (with Grant in second place also with 14/16 after a tie breaker), Micky Pearce (Longbow Heritage) won a prize as the oldest archer (!!) with Angharad Thomas (SPTA) as the youngest. It was perhaps fitting that Denis won his category as it was his birthday (21 again??) and the prize was a traditional Nepalese bamboo bow and two arrows
An interesting feature was that barracking, shouting and whistling whilst archers were shooting was not only permitted it was positively encouraged. Perhaps something we could introduce to our shoots!! It was a little un-nerving to shoot with everyone watching and shouting!!

A full complement of archers congregated on Sunday 22nd May 2016 for our annual Clive Freemantle memorial shoot.
We were lucky with the weather and a great day was had by all. The course setters had done a superb job as usual with a challenging course of 40 targets. The catering was up to the usually high standard and so no one went hungry and the marshals kept things moving.
Many thanks to all those involved with making the day a success.
The Clive Freemantle trophy is awarded to the top Compound Unlimited archer on the day (as it was Clive's chosen shooting style) and this year was won by Owen Blackmore from the South Wilts. club. Many congratulations to him.

A total of 167 archers registered for the Easter Day Open Shoot this year. However, the weather promised to be pretty foul and so there were a record number of 28 cancellations / no shows. In addition, there were 7 retirements.
Actually, the weather was not as bad as feared and 167 competitors managed to complete the course and register a score. A brief shower half way through the day was the worst it got (all right, so it was more of a downpour with hail!) so many stayed around for the prize giving (see photo gallery).
Many thanks to the course setters who set a challenging course (as usual), the catering team who kept us fed all day, Terry who kept us well briefed and, of course, to Helen who carried out the administrative duties with her usual efficiency.
